Trades Descriptions

BOILERMAKER-A boilermaker is a skilled tradesperson who specializes in the fabrication, assembly, installation, maintenance, and repair of boilers, tanks, pressure vessels, and other large metal structures. This may involve cutting, shaping, and welding metal pieces to construct boilers, pressure vessels, and other structures. Boilermakers are responsible for installing boilers, tanks, and other vessels at industrial sites, power plants, refineries, and construction projects. This includes lifting and positioning heavy components using cranes and other equipment, and ensuring proper alignment and fit.

BRICKLAYER-A bricklayer, also known as a mason, is a skilled tradesperson who specializes in building structures using bricks, blocks, and other types of masonry materials.Bricklayers construct walls, partitions, arches, and other structures using bricks, blocks, stone, or concrete masonry units. They lay these materials in rows or courses, ensuring proper alignment, spacing, and levelness to create stable and aesthetically pleasing structures.

CARPENTER-A carpenter is a skilled tradesperson who specializes in working with wood to construct, install, and repair various structures and fixtures. Carpenters are responsible for framing structures, which involves constructing the skeleton or framework of a building. This includes building walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs using dimensional lumber, engineered wood products, and structural steel components. Carpenters install doors, windows, moldings, trim, cabinets, countertops, staircases, and other fixtures and finishes in buildings.

CEMENT MASON-A cement mason/plasterer, often simply referred to as a cement mason or a plasterer, is a skilled tradesperson who specializes in working with cement, concrete, plaster, and other similar materials to construct, finish, and repair various surfaces and structures. Cement masons are responsible for pouring, leveling, and finishing concrete surfaces such as floors, sidewalks, driveways, and foundations. Plasterers apply plaster or stucco to interior and exterior walls and ceilings to create smooth, durable, and decorative finishes.

ELECTRICIAN-An electrician is a skilled tradesperson who specializes in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and components. Electricians install electrical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. This includes wiring circuits, outlets, switches, lighting fixtures, and electrical appliances according to building codes and blueprints. Electricians diagnose electrical problems, such as power outages, faulty wiring, or malfunctioning equipment, and perform repairs or replacements as needed.

INSULATOR-An insulator, also known as an insulation installer or insulation technician, is a skilled tradesperson responsible for installing and maintaining insulation materials in buildings and other structures to improve energy efficiency, control temperature, and reduce noise transmission. Insulators install various types of insulation materials, such as fiberglass, foam, cellulose, and reflective barriers, in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Insulators weatherize buildings by installing insulation materials to prevent heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer. Insulators may also install soundproofing materials to reduce noise transmission between rooms or floors in buildings. In some cases, insulators may install fire-resistant insulation materials to enhance fire safety in buildings.

IRONWORKER-Ironworkers are skilled tradespeople who specialize in the fabrication, erection, and maintenance of structural iron and steel components used in buildings, bridges, and other large structures. Ironworkers assemble and erect structural steel frameworks for buildings, bridges, stadiums, and other structures. Ironworkers install reinforcing steel bars, also known as rebar, in concrete structures such as foundations, columns, and slabs. Ironworkers fabricate metal components such as beams, columns, stairways, and handrails in fabrication shops or on-site. Ironworkers are skilled in rigging and hoisting techniques to safely lift and move heavy steel components and equipment.

LABORER-A laborer, often referred to as a construction laborer or general laborer, is a key member of a construction crew responsible for assisting with various tasks related to building, renovation, and maintenance projects. Laborers assist with general site preparation tasks such as clearing debris, removing obstacles, and preparing the work area for construction activities. Laborers transport, handle, and distribute construction materials and equipment as needed throughout the job site. Laborers assist with demolition and dismantling activities by tearing down existing structures, removing unwanted materials, and salvaging reusable materials.

MILLWRIGHT-A millwright is a skilled tradesperson who specializes in the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of industrial machinery and equipment in various settings such as factories, power plants, refineries, and manufacturing facilities. Millwrights are responsible for installing new machinery, equipment, and production lines according to blueprints, technical specifications, and safety standards. Millwrights perform precision alignment of machinery components such as motors, gears, shafts, pulleys, and bearings to minimize vibration, reduce wear and tear, and optimize performance. Millwrights assemble, disassemble, and reassemble machinery and equipment during installation, maintenance, repair, or relocation processes.

OPERATOR-An operator, is a skilled professional responsible for operating and maintaining heavy machinery and equipment used in construction, excavation, mining, landscaping, and other industries. Equipment operators are proficient in the operation of various types of heavy equipment, including bulldozers, excavators, loaders, graders, backhoes, dump trucks, and compactors. Equipment operators perform a variety of construction, excavation, grading, and earthmoving tasks using heavy machinery.

PIPEFITTER-A pipefitter is a skilled tradesperson responsible for the installation, assembly, maintenance, and repair of piping systems used in various industries such as construction, manufacturing, oil and gas, and utilities. Pipefitters install and assemble piping systems by cutting, threading, bending, and joining pipes and fittings using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment. A sprinkler fitter, also known as a fire sprinkler installer or pipefitter, is a skilled tradesperson responsible for installing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing fire sprinkler systems in buildings and structures

PAINTER-A painter is a skilled tradesperson who specializes in applying paint, coatings, and finishes to surfaces such as walls, ceilings, floors, furniture, and other structures. An industrial painter is a specialized type of painter who focuses on applying protective coatings to various surfaces in industrial settings such as factories, manufacturing plants, refineries, pipelines, bridges, and equipment. A painter can also be a drywall finisher, responsible for installing and finishing drywall or gypsum board in construction and renovation projects.

ROOFER-A roofer is a skilled tradesperson responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining roofing systems on various structures such as residential homes, commercial buildings, and industrial facilities. Roofers install various types of roofing materials, such as asphalt shingles, metal panels, tiles, or membranes, to create weatherproof and durable roofing systems.

SHEET METAL WORKER-A sheet metal worker is a skilled tradesperson who specializes in fabricating, installing, and maintaining sheet metal products and components used in various industries such as construction, manufacturing, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), and aerospace. Sheet metal workers install and assemble fabricated metal components, products, or systems in buildings, equipment, or machinery.

TEAMSTER-Construction Teamsters typically work in the construction industry, primarily focusing on transportation-related tasks within construction sites. Construction Teamsters are responsible for transporting construction materials, equipment, and supplies to and from construction sites.
